Principal’s Message
As we move even closer to the end of the school year, we will continue to include important events, dates, and times in the weekly NOTAM.
Some important clarifications about this Friday’s All-School Awards Ceremony:
Dress code is your Monday-Thursday ‘business casual’ or better, please!
Leave your backpacks at home or in your classroom if you feel you must bring them to school (you won’t need them for class work!).
Check in with your advisor Friday morning, promptly at 9:00 a.m. so that attendance can be taken prior to loading the buses and departing for the Performing Arts Center no later than 9:10 a.m.!
Thank you for being both prompt and attentive as we celebrate the accomplishments of you and your peers at this year’s ceremony. It will be a grand morning followed by fun activities when we arrive back at school. School ends at 2:00 p.m. as it does most Fridays. Parents and families are invited and welcome to join us.
Congratulations and thank you’s are extended to:
Q Everyone who ran for Class Captain last week! I am in full agreement with ASB Advisor Ms. Fitz that any of the officer candidates would have served Aviation High School with pride and excellence. You have elected the following as your class leaders for the 2011-2012 school year:
Sophomores: Royce Le and Katie McConville
Juniors: Rangsey Touch and DeAundre Cola
Seniors: Jordyn McLuen and Kelli Katzer
The entire AHS community looks forward to working with next year’s ASB officers!

§ Drew Hidalgo and Sean Crowley who just attended a week-long leadership school at Westpoint. Drew is now headed to the Summer Academy at the Air Force this week. Very impressive, gentlemen!

I’m sure there are other students who have also applied for a summer experience or who are doing unique things to prepare for life after AHS. I would love to hear from you or your parents so that we can congratulate you, too!
Enjoy the week and the sunshine that will hopefully peek out to nourish us with some much-needed and appreciated Vitamin D! I am honored to be your principal—Reba
NOTES:
Senior Lit Night
You are all invited to our Senior Lit Night on Wednesday, June 8, in the gym, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Come see these future engineers show off their creative side (the right side of their brains) with poetry, monologues, songs, and skits. Refreshments will be served! The theme: Senior Night Live!
Ultimate Frisbee Practice
COME OUT AND PLAY ... with the AHS Co-ed Ultimate Frisbee team on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays through June 16 on the field behind AHS. These June practice sessions are open to all who want to explore this exciting sport. AHS just wrapped up a great first season, taking second in the championships. Six of our team players are graduating and we're seeking new players for next year, ESPECIALLY WOMEN! New players must sign a waiver form; you can get one from Coach Paul out on the field. Any questions? Ask Chris Lu and Jenny Luoma about how to get involved.
Graduation Tickets
Students who did not participate in senior skip day may pick up their tickets on Wednesday during lunch. Graduation tickets will be distributed on Saturday, 11 June to others. Students must have all fines paid before the school will release their tickets. If you have ordered extra tickets but not yet paid for them, you must pay for them when you pick them up.
o Continue checking the AHS website or logging on to school computers to get updated information on events and meetings.
Quote of the Week:
The airplane is just a bunch of sticks and wires and cloth, a tool for learning about the sky and about what kind of person I am, when I fly. An airplane stands for freedom, for joy, for the power to understand, and to demonstrate that understanding. Those things aren't destructable.
