MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
Last Friday, we administered our second annual schoolwide assessment. I am reminded again what a special place Aviation High School is when I hear positive teachers’ comments about students’ willingness to rise to the challenge, even after having completed two intense weeks of AP testing. Students: many thanks helping us assess our academic program. Your thoughtful responses on Friday will provide the staff with important feedback about what we are doing well and where we need to improve; your teachers will spend the next several weeks looking at your responses (and, in the case of the humanities prompt, comparing them to the work you did last year) to determine our schoolwide academic goals for next year.

Speaking of stellar performances: Congratulations to everyone who performed and facilitated last Friday’s Talent Show! Special thanks goes to Kat for organizing the event as her ASB leadership project and Kevin for MC’ing!

Seniors: we’ll see all of you on Friday for your culminating project presentations. Please double-check the time that you are scheduled to present and be on time. Juniors, sophomores, and freshmen: No school for you!
Enjoy this week of learning! I’m honored to be your principal! ~Reba

SODO ROTARY STUDENTS OF THE MONTHS
If you are a senior who has been honored as a SODO Rotary Student of the Month this past year, please plan to come to Room 2 at 12:30 p.m. this Thursday for a pizza & pop reception! SODO Rotary is sponsoring this reception so that they can interact with you once again prior to selecting their scholarship recipients. Please plan to give your ‘elevator speech’ about who you are—name, goals for future, community service/volunteerism, and activities you have participated in during high school. Have fun—enjoy the pizza and pop and be sure to thank them for providing it and contributing so generously to your Class of 2010 scholarship funds. The SODO Rotary Awards will be presented at the Seniors Awards Ceremony
on June 6.

CULTURE CLUB
Culture Club would like to congratulate juniors Matt Iverson, Albert Ta, Yama Sharify, and A.J. Sullivan, the winners of our engineering challenge last Tuesday. We look forward to watching you four compete against the other class teams and the staff team on June 11 during the Culture Club “Giving Thanks” Assembly.

COMMUNITY SERVICE – INTERACT CLUB
If you are interested in joining the Interact Club next year, you can get an early start and join us for a community service event.

Although not officially scheduled yet, we will be providing a helping hand at the Shorewood on the Sound Community Club sometime within the next month. The community club is working in two parks in the Shorewood neighborhood, removing invasive plants like English Ivy, Holly, and Scotch Broom. This should be a fun and easy project for all with the benefit of getting outside and beautifying some local parks!

Contact Ms. Pappas if you are interested in joining the community service-based club, and/or if you are interested in this

Except for the Quote of the Week, the following announcements have been posted in previous editions of the NOTAM. They are still important and posted for your information and action, as appropriate:

COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS DUE!
To count for this school year, completed forms reflecting community service hours are due by Friday, June 4th! Remember, a minimum of 40 hours are required before graduation. Many seniors have not yet documented their required hours. Please return your completed volunteer hour forms to Ms. Pappas or Ms. Carper no later than June 4.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY
AHS students are invited to participate in Northwest Harvest’s annual “Fight Hunger with the Mariners” event this Saturday, May 22nd.
