MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
It’s another busy week! Our sophomores will be taking the High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE) Tuesday-Thursday, which will prove to be a learning experience for all of us since the exams are replacing the WASL. I’m quite confident that our sophomores will do well on these new exams, but I wish them well anyway! Go sophomores!

On Friday morning, we will be visited by State Attorney General Rob McKenna. He will most likely be accompanied by the CEO of Raisbeck Engineering (and lead donor for our new school at the Museum of Flight), James Raisbeck. We will be visiting classes, discussing plans for the move to the MoF, and sharing the unique aspects of teaching and learning at Aviation High School. Please give our visitors a Phoenix welcome if you have the opportunity to interact with them. It is an honor that they have chosen to visit us!

On Friday evening, I’m hoping that all students, families, and staff will attend the annual Dan Hartley Potato Dinner at the IAM Hall in Southpark, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. If you haven’t yet marked your calendars to attend, please do so now! It’s an evening of fun that will include hearing from former Hartley Scholarship recipients, Irish dancing and perhaps even an Irish jig contest in which the “winner” gets an amazing prize, spirited bidding for student-made and other treasured auction items, and just good ‘ole fun in mixing and mingling with families and special guests! See you there! (Please refer to the PTSA messages section of this NOTAM for further event details).

A few other dates that you may want to add to your calendar if not already scheduled:
March 25-27: FIRST Robotics Competition at Key Arena; on Friday, March 26, all Flight I (9th & 10th) students will be transported to the Arena to cheer on our Skunks! Permission forms must be returned by deadline, though! Your advisors will provide the details!

April 5-11: Spring break

April 13, 15: HSPE Exams (sophomores); all students will follow periods 1-6 all week

May 4-12: Advanced Placement (AP) Exams… still finalizing our schedule; we have many junior and senior students taking tests. Stay tuned. This year, all AP districts will be held on the AHS campus!

We interviewed 8th grade applicants last Friday, and huge thanks are due to the following AHS students and staff for assisting: Emily Kelley, Alex Ong, Matt Iverson, Althea Phuong, Jessica Lewis, Melissa Lewis, Sureetha McCain, Libanos Redda, Jennifer Luoma, and Tran Tonnu, Mrs. Hiranaka, Mrs. Stark, Ms. Pappas, and parent volunteer Mrs. Sanders, Mrs. Nicoll and Mrs. Hoppe. A total of 215 students have applied to be in the Class of 2014, so we are not quite finished with the interview process. Stay tuned for additional information, and know that I’m most grateful to everyone who has participated in the process this year!

That’s it for this week! Honored to be your principal—Reba

SOMETHING POSITIVE!!

NOW YOU CAN! Contribute to the missing connections wall with sweet confessions and share the love. Teachers: make sure you stop by and drop a lil’ something too! Drop your compliments off in Ms. Wombold’s room 24

ATTENTION EVERYONE!

If you want to partake in the film festival there is also a sign-up sheet located on the front counter in the office. Only two more weeks until the deadline (March 26).
