MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
There’s a new award in the main office—a shiny fan blade made by Rolls Royce for a Boeing 787 aircraft. If you haven’t yet seen it, I encourage you to stop by for an appreciative look. It was delivered last week, along with a $5,000 donation for scholarship awards. Seniors…watch for more news about how to apply! The company leadership has also offered an opportunity for a group of our students to tour their plant in Everett, so if you are interested in going, please send me an email prior to December 18. We are most grateful for our wonderful partners who so generously support our school, so join me in a big shout-out of thanks to Rolls Royce!
Thanks to all of you who have been helping us with marketing and recruitment. You are great ambassadors for Aviation High School, and I stand in awe of how well you articulate your learning and excitement for our school! Applications from 8th graders are arriving daily, with interest level being higher than in any previous year. So far, we have presented to Cascade, Pacific, and Chinook Middle Schools in the Highline District, and we’re scheduled to present to Sylvester students this Thursday. Tomorrow night is our second evening Information Program, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., so if you know of interested 8th graders, please encourage them to attend.
We will continue to have several visitors on campus during the next two weeks as part of our efforts to inform people about our school and ask for their support with our capital campaign. Thanks for being so gracious as we continue on our journey to realize our goal of building a new school for you at The Museum of Flight!
Congratulations to our awesome Speech & Debate Team for a great showing at the Auburn Valley Invitational this past Saturday. Two teams competed, and both placed in the top four. Justin Dubinsky and Libanos Redda placed 3rd overall in Public Forum Debate while Hayk Saakian and John Doty placed 2nd overall in the same event. Good job, Mr. Shiroma and students! We’re proud of you!
Our Skunkworks Robotics Team also enjoyed a productive weekend as they hosted the 3rd FLL Des Moines Regional, with 21 teams participating, many of them in their rookie year. Compliments were plentiful for our Skunks, parents, volunteers, Coach Steele, and mentors for an outstanding job of organizing this event for younger students to get them excited about math, science, and technology by building robots to apply their knowledge and skills! A few Skunk alums even returned to serve as judges along with some alumni parents! Now that is dedication! 
Many of our graduates in the Classes of 2008 and 2009 are likely to be stopping by over the next two weeks. This represents a great opportunity for you to chat with them about college life. I encourage you to do so!
My best to you for an action-packed, awesome week of learning! Honored to be your principal… ~Reba

FROM YOUR ASB
SOME WAYS TO GIVE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
Unknowingly, many families in our local community go hungry and without any gifts during the holiday season and this year we can help by donating food and money. For the next eight (8) days collection bins will be in each advisory. Bring your non –perishable food items and place them in any teacher’s room, or in the office. Food donations will benefit the Des Moines Food Bank.

Aviation High School has adopted a family again this year to help provide gifts for this upcoming holiday season. This year we are holding an “empty your pockets” drive to raise money to donate to the Highline School District social workers. Each day during advisory empty your change and small bills and help give a family at our school a happy holiday. We will come to advisories and be in the hall, so be on the look out! Collection will start Tuesday, December 7, and will run through December 16(next Wednesday). Get into the holiday spirit, don’t be a Scrooge!

On November 29, four police officers were tragically killed in the line of duty. This holiday season will be especially difficult for the family members. The Lake Wood Police Department has set up a fund to donate to the family members of the slain officers, if you are interested in helping, please visit: http://www.lpig.us/

A MESSAGE TO THE JUNIOR CLASS
Juniors! Wednesday December 9, 2009 is the deadline to turn in your $10 to attend the all-class junior get-together. 60 participants are required for this get-together so if we don’t reach that number we will not be able to rent out the bowling alley. So far, only three people have paid so if you want future get-togethers to happen then this one needs to be successful. Pay your 10$ to me or Bonnie ASAP, the deadline to pay is this Wednesday and the get-together is this Friday. If you need any further information please contact me. Thank you! -Sarah Canul

INFORMATION NIGHT: CULTURE CLUB MOVIE!!!!
Come to Culture Club on Tuesday, December 8th before information night to chill, watch "Elf",and eat pizza! All you need to bring is yourself and $3 for food! See you there!!! :)

COMMUNITY SERVICE UPDATE
On Saturday, Northwest Harvest hosted food donation sites all over the region – they call it their biggest day of the year. Through our Interact Club connection, six Aviation High School students volunteered to help at the Kent warehouse with the amazing volume of donated food items for the annual food drive. Many thanks to Amanuail Ambaye, Yashkarn Bains, Alyssa Hernandez, Victoria Le, Christian Navarro, and Kathryn Shaw for working with other volunteers – after two hours of unpacking large pallets of donated food, separating items, re-packaging individual boxes, weighing the boxes and re-loading pallets for delivery to local food banks, these students and the others helped get 15,000 pounds of food to neighbors in need. Nice job!

FOR SKUNKS’ PARENTS:
Please come and support your skunks by attending the parent meeting this Thursday, December 10th at 6:30 PM in Mr. Joshi's room. Find out if your skunk has all their forms filled out to participate in the upcoming build season! The team needs your help with team meals, study hall and driving to the kick-off. Bring your calendars and don't miss it!

FOR MAGIC PLAYERS
Card Club will be holding another Magic tournament starting on Friday, December 11th at lunch in Mr. Gudor's room. Don't worry about having your own deck, it's a draft tournament, meaning you bring the registration fee of $12.00 and we'll cover the cards (which will be yours to keep, including any prizes you win). Make sure you register by the 10th if you want to play. If you have any questions concerning the tournament contact Tyler Escott or Navid Shafa (both of whom can usually be found in Mr. Gudor's room during lunch).
